WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME I, Book 1
5 Stars! “This scared me. The stories are all entwined, mentioning various characters and events throughout the volume. The horror is well written, where the things that go bump in the night are there and disguised as family, friends and stories you grew up on. The town’s fear feels very real and translates into sensory details. I couldn’t put this down, and I know I’m going to have a hard time getting it out of my head. Highly, highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good scare.” ~BTS eMag
5 Paw Prints! “A thrilling collection of tales to read on a dark stormy night. The stories flow into one another so that it seems as though they’re just one story instead of an anthology. This is definitely a book that I will reread! This loosely based set of stories brings to mind just how creepy the original tales were!” ~Howling Good Books
5 Stars! “What makes this volume fascinating is that each story has one--or several--very unexpected twists that makes it entirely unique! If you like to see fairytales in a darker context, a horror twist, something very different to the ones you heard in your childhood, this is definitely the book for you. Wiesner’s skill in character development, unique character voices and realistic dialogue, and exposition that paints a vivid picture of the book’s world make Woodcutter’s Grim an awesome read!” ~author Jenna Whittaker
5 Stars! "The first three books of the series and The Final Chapter are contained in this collection that scared me silly, and, trust me, I don't scare easily. The Final Chapter concludes an awesome series that I didn't want to stop reading. Highly recommended!" ~Linda's Reviews
5 Stars! "Few authors keep fairytales classic yet scarier like Karen Wiesner has achieved with this collection; the audience will feel they are entering the woods of Woodcutter’s Grim and sense they may not get out. The key that makes this quartet superb is the feeling everything starts of normal like a second chance at love (Papa and Dancing to the Grave), a concerned lover (Blood of Amethyst) or a hero rescuing his damsel in distress (The Amethyst Tower, The Final Chapter). Then Ms. Wiesner deftly changes the venue in each into frightening fantasy novellas. This is an excellent anthology in which the readers will want more stops in Woodcutter’s Grim, sort of like a Hotel California adult fairy tale location." ~Harriet Klausner
4 1/2 Stones! “There's a town somewhere in America where evil lurks. Escaping through a portal in time, the darkness torments the town of Woodcutter's Grim by performing acts of mischief and harm by warping those fairy tales most of us grew up reading and enjoying. But, though the townspeople feel this evil in their being, the Protectorate works tirelessly to keep the evil behind the scenes. It is up to them to protect the people from the evil as well as figure out what mischief is being conducted. Getting right to the point: This is a must read! Being one of those people who've grown up on fairy tales such as Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and the likes, I found it so very intriguing how the author not only reminds the readers of past tales, but incorporates the same look, feel and even more emotion for a modern-day audience with a very modern approach to each. This is not a story for kids! There is love, romance and steamy scenes that play so well into these stories. I loved the characters and how each played into the overall story, how each story played into the overall book. Karen Wiesner has taken me for a ride into her world and I have to admit, I was saddened to leave Woodcutter's Grim when I finished the book. Karen made my blood boil, my nerves fray and even more importantly, my heart ached for her characters. I would suggest all read this as soon as possible. By all means, sit in your favorite chair on a nice night and let Karen take you for a ride! This is one of those books I would love to have in hardcover, sitting on my bookshelf to pull out at any time to sit and enjoy.” ~Siren Book Reviews
4.25 Stars Overall! "After I finished reading this book and its addictive stories, I was left wanting more. Four novellas were just not enough to satisfy my craving for Woodcutter's Grim. To my delight, I have been told that the author has another set of stories set within the Woodcutter's Grim Series. (Volume II contains a four-book [novellas] miniseries dealing with a curse on the Shaussegeny family. These stories are also loosely based on classic fairy tales.) The chills just keep on coming!” ~Huntress Reviews
4 Stars! "In Wiesner's well-written stories, familiar fairy-tale characters come to life as horrific monsters in a fictional town with a terrifying life force of its own. Characters are well drawn, but beware the clever townspeople, because everyone is suspect. Although each delightfully haunting tale can be read as a stand-alone, they are interrelated." ~RT Book Reviews
4 Lips! “Karen Wiesner writes four chilling books that are all written around your favorite fairy tales and Halloween, and that gives the stories a much scarier feel when you are reading them. Readers, this fantastic book should be read around Halloween. Don't forget, though, when you turn your lights out you may hear things that go bump in the night. Great job, Karen. I love how you combined romance and horror into these wonderful short stories. I really enjoyed your book, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to review it!” ~ParanormalRomance.ca
4 Cups! "Woodcutter's Grim Series takes childhood fairy tales to the extreme. They are all somewhat creepy if you really think about them. It is no wonder kids have nightmares after hearing them. I enjoyed them all. The ending ties them all together, and leaves just enough to the imagination. You are just waiting for the low eerie music to start playing before the curtains falls. Sleep tight!" ~Coffee Time Romance & More
4 Stars! “These four frighteningly amazing stories put a whole new twist on some old fairy tales. WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES, Volume I has four romantic horror stories that are all loosely based on fairytales. The stories were written very well and they captured my imagination with their imagery and the descriptive scenes. 4 Wings! “A Halloween romp of fun and shivers. These tales are wonderfully crafted, and fun-filled with the joys and traditions of the season woven into them. The characters come alive and celebrate this holiday each in their own way in these stories. I really enjoyed this and look forward to more from this favorite author. If you enjoy this holiday as much as I do, pick up this book to settle back for a good read.” ~Classic Romance Revival
Highest Rating! "WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES, Volume I is a spooky read that will have you re-thinking classic fairytales. I was instantly sucked into this book from page one and spent my whole afternoon engrossed in these scary tales. I would like to applaud Wiesner for her imagination that had her intertwine romance and horror around every corner. One minute I was smiling because there was a bit of romance, then the next I was scared and had goosebumps! I hope she continues to write these types of stories because I would love to get my hands on another one of these books. I will recommend this book to everyone that I can." ~Dark Angel Reviews
"Instead of spending your Halloween handing out Trick-or-Treat candy or watching reruns of classic horror movies, enjoy a spine tingling experience with the awesome genius of Karen Wiesner. She has taken four of the classic Grimm’s Fairy Tales and rewritten them in her own unique style turning them into new modern horror tales. Each tale is terrifying and weaves perfectly into the next." ~Writers Unlimited
“I don't like short stories. To me, short stories have always seemed like an easy way out. Someone comes up with a good kernel of an idea, and just writes that, without fleshing it out all the way into a story. I'm always left frustrated. Why did they make that decision? How is that they reached this age and didn't know something that was crucial to the story? What happens next? They never have closure; to me, it seems the story usually stops without being finished. That is not what happens here. Karen Wiesner has written four stories that are fully formed short stories on their own. They are linked by the setting, Woodcutter's Grim, and many of the characters carry from one story to the next, but different people get to shine in each story. Karen Wiesner here has called what we normally call fairy tales, classic tales of horror. This choice really emphasizes that most people don't realize how scary and frightening children's songs, television shows, and stories really are. For example, did you know that ring around a rosy is a song about dying from the bubonic plague? Do you realize that Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water, and Jack fell down and hit his head so hard that it split his head open? Think about how frightened Jill must have been as she ran to fetch the nanny. The stories in this book: Papa, Blood of Amethyst, Dancing to the Grave, and The Amethyst Tower are all retellings of fairy tales. It seems that evil took hold of the town Woodcutter's Grim one day, and the evil likes to possess the town and its inhabitants and force people into reenacting fairy tales. This isn't a happy possession; no Cinderella or Snow White here. The problem is that the evil has begun to seep outside the town limits and the town's protectors aren't able to keep the evil restricted to Woodcutter's Grim anymore. In the first story, Papa, the evil reaches out and grabs someone with a tenuous connection to Woodcutter's Grim, and forces them to re-enact Hansel and Gretel. Rand and his wife Amy are struggling to deal with the death of Rand's first wife and his two children. Amy has fallen into a deep depression, which Rand tries to fix by taking a vacation weekend in Woodcutter's Grim. Needless to say, it does not go well. This story introduces us to the evil of Woodcutter's Grim. Blood of Amethyst, Dancing to the Grave, and The Amethyst Tower are all set in Woodcutter's Grim, explain the hold that evil has on the town, and gives us a look into three other couples. Blood of Amethyst explains what Rumplestiltskin really wanted with the baby he tried to steal from the princess. In Dancing to the Grave, we learn how the Pied Piper enthralled the town's children. The Amethyst Tower is an explanation of why Rapunzel's hair grew that much, how the prince found the tower, and what happened when they climbed down her hair. The overarching story of the evil of Woodcutter's Grim, introduced in Papa, is explained and dealt with in the remaining stories. All four have elements of horror but also a healthy dose of romance between our protagonists. In each, they struggle with the evil that threatens to overtake and destroy their relationships and their lives. These women almost lose their Prince Charmings through depression, infidelity, the death of a parent, etc.—things we can all relate to. In this book, not only does love prevail, but good triumphs over evil and you get two happy endings for the price of one.” ~Happily Ever After Reviews
"WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES is a collection of classic horror stories retold with a modern flair and a new twist. The entire anthology is set in present times as well as having elements of history thrown in. Woodcutter’s Grim is a town that has been plagued by evil for ten generations. They have also been protected by the Guardians for just as long. Without the Guardians, the terrors found in the woods of Woodcutter’s Grim would put the town and the world at risk. This anthology was very well put together and each story was like a book all by itself. The storyline was well developed and resolved at the end. The stories are definitely for adults, and were written in a way that made me care for all of the primary characters. The dialogue was realistic and I was entertained by each story. Some elements were a little harsh, but it set the tone of the story." ~Paranormal Romance Reviews
"This was a great set of stories all set or based around the town of Woodcutter's Grim--a place that I would not recommend living in or visiting at any time...especially Halloween. This was a nice scary read with all the stories having a modern fairy tale twist. All in all, this collection of stories about Woodcutters Grim is a great set of stories. With every tale connected to each other and all set around Halloween, this was a scary piece of work. Paranormal romance and full of horror, this is a book that shouldn't be read late at night. Things that go bump in the night would be afraid of Woodcutter's Grim. The author can write a good story and, even though these tales are all part of a series, they also standalone very well. If you like something unusual, love and little mystery, then this is something worth having a taste of." ~Front Street Reviews
"A bit grimmer than Grimm's fairy tales, WOODCUTTER’S GRIM SERIES will take you on a chilling journey through the darkness of night. Take a ride with author Karen Wiesner to see if the characters make it to the light." ~Romance Reviews Today
"Karen Wiesner's anthology, WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES, Volume I presents four tales based loosely on classic tales. Make no mistake however, these are powerful, contemporary tales of the paranormal, with a sprinkle of romance mixed in. Each of these, although presented as a twist on an old tale, features a very original plot and emotional characters in evocative situations. A haunting, dark quality pervades all four, adding to the plausibility of some otherwise bizarre events (not to mention characters). The haunting quality is often derived from recall of the past, or a specific character's reflection on the past. The slower times contrast sharply with the more spine-tingling times. These stories are an enjoyable read, although best perhaps NOT at bedtime!" ~Long and Short Reviews
“Since I'm a big fan of retold fairy tales, I enjoyed these innovative variations on the theme very much. Although the stories could stand alone, they build upon each other to form a unified although episodic novel. This book contains genuine horror, so don't count on finding unequivocal happy endings. By the conclusion of "The Amethyst Tower," however, peace at last descends on Woodcutter's Grim.” ~author Margaret L. Carter
Papa in WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME I, Book 1
5 Stars! "In Papa, Ms. Wiesner's retelling of Hansel and Gretel with a twist will make you hunger for more of these reinvented fairy tales. My heart went out to Rand and Amy. After a loveless marriage he couldn't seem to escape, Rand finally divorces his wife, who is the mother of his children. With Amy, he's at last found someone to love who loves him back. When his ex-wife and their young son and daughter are killed, Rand and Amy try to heal, but it seems past sins and a wicked curse won't let them. Highly recommended!" ~Linda's Reviews
5 Stars! "This story gave me the exact same eerie feeling that I experienced as I watched the movie titled (based on a video game) Silent Hill. This tale is the first of a novella series about the Great Evil that dwells in the town of Woodcutter's Grim and its surrounding woods. The Great Evil likes to manifest itself in dark, twisted versions of fairy tales. My advice is to not read this story at night if you are alone. After I finished reading this book and its addictive stories, I was left wanting more. Four novellas were just not enough to satisfy my craving for Woodcutter's Grim. To my delight, I have been told that the author has another set of stories set within the Woodcutter's Grim Series. 5 Angels! "Are you looking for a creepy, hair-raising tale? This book has it! I would suggest that you leave an extra light on when you sit down to read this, just in case. Papa is a twisted reversal of the Hansel and Gretel story I grew up with. This story is off the creepiness meter. I had chills down my spine reading this one. Do not read this story at night, alone, and especially not in a cabin in the mountains! If you love the scary ghost stories you probably used to hear around the campfire when you were a kid growing up, then this is the story for you." ~Fallen Angel Reviews
5 Tombstones! "Everything I hoped it would be. A clever, spine-chilling story that made me unable to stop reading. The characters are outstanding and unique. The eerie tale of Hansel and Gretel has just gotten more chilling. The characters were unyielding individuals with strict beliefs. Just when I thought I had figured it out, the book turns and it throws all my first conclusions out the window. It kept me on my toes." ~Bitten by Books
4 Cups! "Papa, like the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, has a macabre and disturbing undertone. The characters of Rand and Amy become unwitting pawns to his dead wife's deal with evil. This really makes you think twice about reading those innocent little fairy tales to your children. Woodcutter's Grim Series takes childhood fairy tales to the extreme. They are all somewhat creepy if you really think about them. It is no wonder kids have nightmares after hearing them. I enjoyed them all. The ending ties them all together, and leaves just enough to the imagination. You are just waiting for the low eerie music to start playing before the curtains falls. Since then Amy has had horrible dreams of the kids coming to take revenge on them for what they had done. I was completely engrossed in this story and the story definitely held some surprises that kept me on my toes. This was a true horror story that will keep you up at night and make sure you never think about the story of Hansel and Gretel the same way again. All of these stories kept me riveted to the pages and anxious to see what would happen next. 4 Hearts! "Karen Wiesner gives the reader a spooky grown-up tale reminiscent of Hansel and Gretel in Papa with a trip to a village where time stands still in a truly scary excursion. An enjoyable read." ~The Romance Studio
4 Wings! “A Halloween romp of fun and shivers. Papa is a story of fear, terror and Christian peace in this story of a newly married couple that is haunted by his dead children. Their second honeymoon takes them to Woodcutter's Grim, a town of magic and terror that leads them to Hansel and Gretel's Gingerbread House deep in the Woods. There the two of them remembered God's love brings peace and forgiveness, not pain and guilt. These tales are wonderfully crafted, and fun-filled with the joys and traditions of the season woven into them. The characters come alive and celebrate this holiday each in their own way in these stories. With the gingerbread house that puts people to sleep, this tale shows people not always at their best but doing the best they can at this time of year in an interesting adventure. I really enjoyed this and look forward to more from this favorite author. If you enjoy this holiday as much as I do, pick up this book to settle back for a good read.” ~Classic Romance Revival
4 Stars! "Papa is a chilling interpretation of Hansel and Gretel in the romantic horror novella by Karen Wiesner, where Randall and new bride Amy are haunted by specters of his deceased children." ~RT Book Reviews
Highest Rating! "Papa is one wickedly twisted story that runs parallel with Hansel and Gretel, but it's ten times more exciting. I loved this story from beginning to ending. The horror elements in this story were both bone-chilling and exciting at the same time. I read page for page, as fast as I possibly could. Wiesner knows how to mix horror and romance together." ~Dark Angel Reviews
"Papa is haunted by a guilt and turns into one hell of a nightmare. Anyone keen on a counterbalance of love, horror, murder and apparition will have a feast." ~TCM Reviews
"A wonderful story. Wiesner chills Halloween night with the story Papa. Definitely read every Halloween night when ghosts return to haunt." ~Rolling Seas Reviews
"Papa is a creepy tale. Curl up with a copy on Halloween to have a spooky night. Fairy tales take on a new look in the hands of this talented woman." ~Writers Unlimited
"This was a great set of stories all set or based around the town of Woodcutter's Grim--a place that I would not recommend living in or visiting at any time...especially Halloween. This was a nice scary read with all the stories having a modern fairy tale twist. Papa is the opening story in this book about Woodcutter's Grim. This story is based on the classic tale Hansel and Gretel. Instead of a story for children to teach them some morals, this is horror pure with a hint of romance. The suspense builds throughout the whole tale with every twist and is sure to give any reader more and more goosebumps as things unfold. It is already clear from this first story that Woodcutters Grim is not a place where you can spend a nice quiet holiday. "Papa is very dark take on Hansel and Gretel and it will chill the soul. This tale introduces readers to the town of Woodcutter’s Grim and the evil and sets up some of the characters, primarily the Guardians, who will create the thread between the stories. A bit grimmer than Grimm's fairy tales, WOODCUTTER’S GRIM SERIES will take you on a chilling journey through the darkness of night. Take a ride with author Karen Wiesner to see if the characters make it to the light." ~Romance Reviews Today
"Karen Wiesner's anthology, WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES, Volume I presents four tales based loosely on classic tales. Make no mistake however; these are powerful, contemporary tales of the paranormal, with a sprinkle of romance mixed in. In the first, Papa guilt and sorrow twist together, to add torment to the moralistic self-judgment of Amy; her feelings threaten to end the couple's heartfelt relationship until moving too close to a certain forest threatens far more. In this is a dark and disturbing tale, guilt only serves to feed the terror. The darkness of the theme is enhanced by many images: from tombs, accidental death, endless grief and a place called Grim. Sin and guilt form a backdrop here, as well as the specter of a pact with the devil. It starts dark enough, but the growing awareness of a true horror waiting just around the corner will make even hardcore horror fans cringe. A haunting, dark quality pervades all four, adding to the plausibility of some otherwise bizarre events (not to mention characters). The haunting quality is often derived from recall of the past, or a specific character's reflection on the past. The slower times contrast sharply with the more spine-tingling times. Blood of Amethystin WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME I, Book 1
5 Stars! "Blood of Amethyst has incredible storytelling. Few authors keep fairytales classic yet scarier like Karen Wiesner has achieved with this collection; the audience will feel they are entering the woods of Woodcutter’s Grim and sense they may not get out. The key that makes this quartet superb is the feeling everything starts of normal like a second chance at love (Papa and Dancing to the Grave), a concerned lover (Blood of Amethyst) or a hero rescuing his damsel in distress (The Amethyst Tower, The Final Chapter). This is an excellent anthology in which the readers will want more stops in Woodcutter’s Grim, sort of like a Hotel California adult fairy tale location." ~Harriet Klausner
5 Stars! "In Blood of Amethyst, the horror continues with a loose retelling of the story Rumplestiltskin. Amethyst and her father's farm is too close to the woods where the evil in Woodcutter's Grim is said to lurk. But her relationship with Gabe, the sheriff in town and the Guardian of the Protectorate that is the only defense against the evil, reaches an ultimatum with her pregnancy and imminent birth of their first child. The horrifying choice she makes and the consequences of that decision set the tone for everything that follows this story in the series. Highly recommended!" ~Linda's Reviews
5 Angels! “This is the kind of book you put on your keeper shelf and reread. Have you ever wondered what a fairytale would be like if it was a horror story? That is what Wiesner does with the Blood of Amethyst. This tale is a horror version. I was thoroughly creeped-out by this story and loved it. I do not advise you to read this story at home alone, at night, without adequate light.” ~Fallen Angel Reviews
4.5 Hearts and Reviewer Top Pick! "Blood of Amethyst takes the stories we all remember from childhood and puts a decidedly different twist to them to come up with a tale that keeps the reader enthralled, no matter how hard her heart is pounding!" ~Night Owl Romance
4 Stars! "Ever wonder why Rumpelstilskin wanted a child of his own? Blood of Amethyst gives and answer that will send chills up your spine. Sheriff Gabe Reece had a small role to play in the previous tale, but this time the Guardian takes center stage. Readers learn a little about the town's past, as well as the responsibilities that rest upon the shoulders of Gabe and the Brethren. An intriguing read. After I finished reading this book and its addictive stories, I was left wanting more. Four novellas were just not enough to satisfy my craving for Woodcutter's Grim. To my delight, I have been told that the author has another set of stories set within the Woodcutter's Grim Series. 4 Cups! "In Blood of Amethyst, Rumpelstiltskin comes to life and wants fresh blood in this story with a vampire flare. Gabe and Amethyst are both completely devoted to their respective lives, and this leads them on a path of pain and despair. I found this to be the saddest story of the series, but very poignant. Ms. Karen Wiesner writes a chilling yarn of patient, haunting evil, waiting to pounce. I could not anticipate the exciting ending. The characters were full of angst, quirks and a whole lot of humanity. I would suggest this to any reader of fiction. Blood of Amethyst was a romantic and chilling tale that tested the strength of a man's love for a woman and how far he would go to protect her. In this story Gabe will face one of his greatest challenges yet to save the woman he loves from the evil monster who wants her soul. This was one of my favorites not only because of Gabe (who is amazing by the way), but because it had one of my favorite fairy tale characters, Rumpelstiltskin. I also liked learning more about the creature behind this heinous act and how he fit into everything. All of these stories kept me riveted to the pages and anxious to see what would happen next. Fans of wicked romances with mystery and danger lurking in every page will love this series!” ~The Romance Reviews
“What would happen if the Big Bad Wolf was real? What if the witch really did lure in Hansel and Gretel? That is the question that made this story so gripping. Blood of Amethyst was a very riveting, chilling tale of a supernatural, paranormal small town that hides a thin veil between the worlds of good and evil. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, but be prepared, this is not your traditional romance, and doesn’t have your typical happily ever after. Even so, I couldn’t stop turning the pages. In Blood of Amethyst, the dedication, and determination of the hero, Gabe (easily the most appealing character in all the tales) are as pivotal as love. These stories are an enjoyable read, although best perhaps NOT at bedtime!"” ~Long and Short Reviews
"Blood of Amethyst is an engaging romantic horror that’s a gruesome retelling of the fairytale Rumpelstiltskin where the evil has long terrorized the people of the small town, Woodcutter’s Grim. With its well written characters and vivid descriptive details, it’s a story will chill the reader’s spine while it’s being read and haunt their mind well after it’s been finished." ~TCM Reviews
"This was a great set of stories all set or based around the town of Woodcutter's Grim--a place that I would not recommend living in or visiting at any time...especially Halloween. This was a nice scary read with all the stories having a modern fairy tale twist. The second story the author offers up is called Blood Amethyst. This story is similar to the tale of Rumplestiltskin with a horrible scary twist. All in all, this collection of stories about Woodcutters Grim is a great set of stories. With every tale connected to each other and all set around Halloween, this was a scary piece of work. Paranormal romance and full of horror, this is a book that shouldn't be read late at night. "In Blood of Amethyst, Rumpelstiltskin comes to life. A bleak and scary tale, it provides more background information on the town, its history, and its future. A bit grimmer than Grimm's fairy tales, WOODCUTTER’S GRIM SERIES will take you on a chilling journey through the darkness of night. Take a ride with author Karen Wiesner to see if the characters make it to the light." ~Romance Reviews Today
Dancing to the Grave in WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME I, Book 1
5 Stars! "Dancing To the Grave is a deliciously spooky tale. Few authors keep fairytales classic yet scarier like Karen Wiesner has achieved with this collection; the audience will feel they are entering the woods of Woodcutter’s Grim and sense they may not get out. The key that makes this quartet superb is the feeling everything starts of normal like a second chance at love (Papa and Dancing to the Grave), a concerned lover (Blood of Amethyst) or a hero rescuing his damsel in distress (The Amethyst Tower). Then Ms. Wiesner deftly changes the venue in each into frightening fantasy novellas. This is an excellent anthology in which the readers will want more stops in Woodcutter’s Grim, sort of like a Hotel California adult fairy tale location." ~Harriet Klausner
5 Stars! "In Dancing to the Grave, the author continued to freak me out with a chilling, twisty-turny rendition of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Amethyst's best friend Diane is the heroine in this story. After an extremely rough few years apart, Diane and her husband Kurt, a member of the Protectorate, are trying to put their marriage and lives back together. But, after what happened in the previous story, the evil that lives in Woodcutter's Grim is out for revenge. Even as I was rooting for this couple to come out victorious, a happily-ever-after seemed like the least likely scenario. Highly recommended!" ~Linda's Reviews
5 Paw Prints! “This is a tale of mayhem and an interesting look at The Pied Piper. A thrilling tale to read on a dark stormy night. If you are looking only for a Happily Ever After, then be forewarned this may not qualify, but instead leads the reader through the twisted streets of a town that is steeped not only in superstition but also in fairytales. Beware the streets of Woodcutter’s Grim on All Hallow’s Eve, lest the creatures that prowl the night come to bear witness to the deals you strike with their devil. This is definitely a book that I will reread! And one I recommend to any parent who enjoyed the original tales before they were remade for children. This loosely based story brings to mind just how creepy the original tale was!” ~Howling Good Books
4 1/2 Stones and Best Book of 2010 Nominee! This is one of those books I would love to have in hard cover, sitting on my bookshelf to pull out at any time to sit and enjoy.” ~Siren Book Reviews
4 Stars! "Though this series is basically a blending of romance and horror, the author leaned toward using mystery and suspense in this particular tale. The Brethren have been minus one member since the night of Prince's birth. By the end of this story, the seat will be filled and the Brethren undergo a change or two. Chills never raced down my spine while reading this one, but the suspense kept my eyes glued. After I finished reading this book and its addictive stories, I was left wanting more. Four novellas were just not enough to satisfy my craving for Woodcutter's Grim. To my delight, I have been told that the author has another set of stories set within the Woodcutter's Grim Series. (Volume II contains a four-book [novellas] miniseries dealing with a curse on the Shaussegeny family. These stories are also loosely based on classic fairy tales.) The chills just keep on coming!” ~Huntress Reviews
4 Cups! "Dancing to the Grave gives you one more reason to intensely dislike rodents, and is probably my favorite book in the series. Diana and Kurt are equally strong and interesting characters. Their story is one of love, and a devotion to fight together in order to save their marriage. Woodcutter's Grim Series takes childhood fairy tales to the extreme. They are all somewhat creepy if you really think about them. It is no wonder kids have nightmares after hearing them. I enjoyed them all, but Dancing to the Grave is my favorite with its equally strong characters.
Dancing to the Grave was loosely based on The Pied Piper of Hamelin and was a thrilling mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. This was one of the more exciting stories of the four, and I really liked how Diana and Kurt worked together and how the author was able to turn the story of The Pied Piper of Hamelin into an adventure filled thriller with a bit of romance as well. All of these stories kept me riveted to the pages and anxious to see what would happen next. Fans of wicked romances with mystery and danger lurking in every page will love this series!” ~The Romance Reviews
4 Stars! "In Wiesner's well-written story, familiar fairy-tale characters come to life as horrific monsters in a fictional town with a terrifying life force of its own. Characters are well drawn, but beware the clever townspeople, because everyone is suspect." ~RT Book Reviews
4 Lips! “Karen sets this story around Halloween and that gives it a much scarier feel when you are reading. Readers, this fantastic book should be read around Halloween. Don't forget, though, when you turn your lights out you may hear things that go bump in the night. Great job, Karen. I love how you combined romance and. I really enjoyed your book, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to review it!” ~ParanormalRomance.ca Highest Rating! "Dancing to the Grave was a great love story with a twist of evil demise thrown in along the way. I was hoping I knew where the story was going and was excited that Wiesner would throw that little curve ball in to make the story so much more exciting. This story gave me major goose bumps." ~Dark Angel Reviews

"This book was very well put together. The storyline was well developed and resolved at the end. The story is definitely for adults and was written in a way that made me care for all of the primary characters. The dialogue was realistic and I was entertained." ~Paranormal Romance Reviews
"This was a nice, scary read with a modern fairytale twist. The characters were likable and the storyline was clever and interesting. The author can write a good story." ~Front Street Reviews
"Dancing to the Grave is a standout strange tale. Although presented as a twist on an old tale, this story features a very original plot and emotional characters in evocative situations. A haunting, dark quality pervades, adding to the plausibility of some otherwise bizarre events (not to mention characters). The haunting quality is often derived from recall of the past, or a specific character's reflection on the past. The slower times contrast sharply with the more spine-tingling times. An enjoyable read, although best perhaps NOT at bedtimes!" ~Long and Short Reviews
“Since I'm a big fan of retold fairytales, I enjoyed this innovative variation on the theme very much.” ~author Margaret L. Carter
"This was a great set of stories all set or based around the town of Woodcutter's Grim--a place that I would not recommend living in or visiting at any time...especially Halloween. This was a nice scary read with all the stories having a modern fairy tale twist. After the second story, it is clear that the author has a knack for writing a good horror story with a pinch of romance that lightens the mood a little. Dancing to the Grave is the third story in the Woodcutters Grim Series collection. This never before published tale is based on the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The characters were likable and the storyline was clever and interesting. If you like something unusual, love and little mystery, then this is something worth having a taste of." ~Front Street Reviews "In Dancing to the Grave, denied what it wants, the evil of Woodcutter’s Grim has returned to attack the town’s lifeblood…their children. This is a modern and definitely darker take on the Pied Piper of Hamlin tale. Diana is a strong woman who has weathered some very hard times. Diana’s relationship to Amethyst ties this tale to the previous one and sets up the final denouement.
Dancing to the Grave is a standout, strange tale even among these; in this story, community (and the fate of the children) becomes a driving force. The Amethyst Tower, The Final Chapter in WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME I, Book 1
5 Stars! "The Amethyst Tower is a beautiful adult fairy tale. Retelling classic fairy tales (Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, The Pied Piper of Hamelin and Rapunzel) has been done many times over the years. Few authors keep them classic yet scarier like Karen Wiesner has achieved with this collection; the audience will feel they are entering the woods of Woodcutter’s Grim and sense they may not get out.
5 Stars! "The Amethyst Tower, the very last book in the Woodcutter's Grim Series, finishes out this collection, which contained an explanation from the author on the suggested reading order of the books in the series. Luckily, Wiesner *does* recommend reading The Amethyst Tower directly after reading the first three--even before going on to the books that follow. All those stories were written in a way that assumes the reader has already read The Amethyst Tower, which is kind of a time-travel fantasy story loosely based on Rapunzel. The Amethyst Tower is a complicated, thrilling tale of good versus evil, hope and patience, and epic triumph only earned by never giving up, no matter how impossible the odds. The Final Chapter concludes an awesome series that I didn't want to stop reading. Highly recommended!" ~Linda's Reviews
5 Paw Prints! “Prince has known there is much expected of him. He has known that since the day that he was born. But his dreams of his love, with Rapunzel-like hair, that is locked in a tower somewhere within the confines of his strange town make him wonder if he will ever be what the world need. 4 Cups! "In The Amethyst Tower, the weight of the world rests on one man's shoulders, and he is slowly crumbling. This tale is the last in a wonderfully spooky series, and it does not disappoint. Prince is pushed to the edge, and not knowing if he will survive keeps you guessing right up until the end. Woodcutter's Grim Series takes childhood fairy tales to the extreme. They are all somewhat creepy if you really think about them. It is no wonder kids have nightmares after hearing them. I enjoyed them all. WOODCUTTER'S GRIM SERIES ANTHOLOGY, VOLUME II, Book 2
5 Stars and Top Pick! “WOODCUTTER’S GRIM SERIES, Volume II is collection of short stories about the inhabitants of Woodcutter’s Grim who are anything but ordinary. These hauntingly romantic tales will give you the chills and have you swooning within the same sentence. In Volume II, the author focuses on the Shaussegeny family, who has a terrible curse placed upon them. The scenery and descriptive language help set the mood for haunting. The imagery used was beautiful and creative. I enjoyed every minute and couldn't put it down. I recommend this to those who love a romance with some relatable characters and tons of emotion-packed scenes. I love fairy tales and I am always happy to check out new retellings. This one is definitely one of the best. I love the dark romance and the twists and turns that are added. This is so much more than a retelling, though as it brings in a magic of its own and drew me in, keeping me glued to the pages for hours. I highly recommend not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews

These hauntingly romantic tales will give you the chills and have you swooning within the same sentence. In Volume II, the author focuses on the Shaussegeny family, who has a terrible curse placed upon them. Moonlight Becomes You is about Heather Rowe discovers she’s pregnant with Lance Shaussegeny’s child—who displays some curious symptoms. Her son is sick, and Lance may be the only one who knows how to cure him. Many relive past wrongs over in their mind, but nothing could be worse than reliving them in the flesh. I highly recommend not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews
5 Stars! “I could not stop reading until the very end and am about to submerge myself into the next Shaussegeny story.” ~Huntress Reviews
4 ½ Stars! “As a story, this forms a part of her long-running Woodcutter’s Grim Series of novels appearing in a compilation of stories. Since the evil had laid its grip on Woodcutter’s Grim the Defenders have had to make sure their children can grow up in a safer place that it would have been, or the horrors that lurked around there could have picked them off one by one. This story, like her other novels is loosely based on the fairy tale of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. Heather Rowe is at a loss as to what is happening to her child, and when she can’t get any answers from the doctors who look at the child, she has to return to Woodcutters Grim, where her man, Lance lives to find out what is going on. From the first three pages Karen has the reader find out more about the characters than if she had waited. She wants the reader to know of the characters first before she sets the action off in this story. Heather wants to know what is going on with the child, and only he has the answers, but she has only heard a little about Woodcutters Grim and the rumours of the curse, and nothing more. Heather can’t understand why he knows so much about her and her him, but when he answers all her questions, she finally comes to terms with what she has to do to save herself and her child.” ~Love Romance Passion
4 Stars! “I admire Heather so much. Not only is she a woman struggling to understand the changes that came over her after making love to Lance, but she's also a new mother with a very sick child. My heart ached as she held her son and tried to understand what was wrong with him. She's terrified of going to Woodcutter’s Grim, but Heather is willing to face her own fears if it means saving her son. I became so wrapped up in Heather and her son’s struggle that I turned each page hoping they would find some peace. I do have to say that I found Lance and his family a little creepy. It's clear the love Lance and his family show Heather and her son is genuine and unconditional. I enjoyed reading Moonlight Becomes You. Woodcutter’s Grim is certainly scary, but also is an intriguing place filled with interesting characters. I recommend it to anyone looking for a frightening fairytale.” ~Long and Short Reviews
4 Stars! “Well-paced and entertaining.” ~RT Book Reviews

These hauntingly romantic tales will give you the chills and have you swooning within the same sentence. In Volume II, the author focuses on the Shaussegeny family, who has a terrible curse placed upon them. Bewitched is not your ordinary fairytale. This story is an amazingly dark fairy tale laced with some romance, making for a very intriguing story. The descriptive imagery helped me to imagine just what this world must be like for these characters and grow to love them for it. The characters are very well written, easily luring readers into this fantastic new world full of secrets, curses, and love. Glynnis is part of a family that is plagued with a curse and because of this, she has to go through plenty of problems in order to make things right. Aric was a mysterious character who I enjoyed figuring out along with Glynnis. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good dark fairytale. I highly recommend not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews
4 ½ Stars! “I’m glad I got to know a bit more about Glynnis. I think her mixed emotions add a very human element to this supernatural tale. Glynnis is also very honest and straightforward, traits which made her even more endearing. Aric’s history adds an interesting dimension to the magic surrounding Glynnis and her family. Wiesner has packed a lot of information into this short story but it all fit together well and never felt rushed or overwhelming. This buildup of information also led to a very exciting climax that had me speeding through the pages. Readers wanting to enjoy this great addition to the Woodcutter’s Grim Series should definitely read the first four stories in the series in order to better understand the Shaussegeny family. Once readers visit Woodcutter’s Grim, I have no doubt they’ll want to come back. I will certainly be reading the other stories in this series soon.” ~Long and Short Reviews
4 Stars! “Not your ordinary fairytale. This story is amazingly dark, laced with romance, making for a very intriguing story. The descriptive imagery helped me to visualize just what this world must be like for these characters and grow to love them for it. The characters are very well written, easily luring readers into this fantastic new world full of secrets, curses, and love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good dark fairytale.” ~The Romance Review
4 Stars! “I have come to realize that this author, Karen Wiesner, has a manipulative side. She takes an innocent fairytale, rips apart all but the main meat of it, and then inserts her own darker magic while captivating the reader with her awesome storytelling skills. As with the previous novellas, the main characters have well developed backgrounds and the curse causes the Shaussegeny family a plethora of problems in which they must deal with in a timely manner. It all adds up to give the reader one heck of a wild ride.” ~Huntress Reviews
4 Stars! “Readers will like what Karen Wiesner has made Glynnis into, as it fits into the whole fantasy/fairy tale story idea nicely. It is the story of two people who have been apart all their lives but who need to be together, and Aric doesn’t know who that one woman is until he meets her purely by chance one day. It is then he feels that she has been the one who can fill his heart with love-she is the one part of him that can make him whole again. So far he has been living alone and has felt so empty.” ~Love Romance Passion
“Bewitched: The premise underlying the series, of a town haunted by evil, the Guardians set to protect the town, and a curse placed upon a family that made them werewolves proves very intriguing. This story begins with a lyrical fairy tale/folklore narrative which engages the reader immediately. The two likeable leads in the tale ensure that readers wish to discover how their situation gets resolved and will leave them curious about other members of the family explored in subsequent stories.” ~Bitten By Books

One Night of Eternity was by far one of the most emotion-packed stories in this series yet. Much of it is bittersweet and the mixed emotions and fears of the characters practically ooze off the page. It was very easy to become engrossed in Gavin and Marnie's story, and I couldn't help but feel empathy and even joy at times. Marnie and Gavin both have scars because of their actions, but throughout the book they get a chance to finally accept them and possibly have a happy ending of their own. The scenery and descriptive language in the story helps set the mood for this haunting tale. The imagery used was beautiful and creative. I enjoyed every minute of this story and couldn't put it down. I recommend this story to those who love a romance with some relatable characters and tons of emotion-packed scenes. Beauty is the Beast comes with a new twist. I love fairy tales and I highly recommend not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews
4 Stars! “This is the third in a four-book novella miniseries within the Woodcutter's Grim series. Each story can stand alone, but by reading them in order you will get the full gut-punch. In the first story, Lance returned to Woodcutter's Grim because his father, Gav, had disappeared in the woods. In the second story, Gav's disappearance is remarked on also. The family has figured out that Gav must have cheated on Marnie again and that the covenant part of the curse is at work, and they suspect (correctly) that Marnie knows exactly where Gav is and what is happening to him, but Marnie will not speak about her husband. The character of Marnie is very strong. Family means everything to her. I was impressed by her character during the first two stories. After this tale, I like her even more.” ~Huntress Reviews
4 Stars! “My heart ached as the tension mounted once this story reached its climax. I held my breath and crossed my fingers hoping for a happy ending. One Night of Eternity may be a short story, but the emotions contained within its pages are powerful, and I couldn’t put the book down until I’d finished reading it. Anyone looking for a tale filled with real and raw emotions and an ultimately happy ending should consider reading One Night of Eternity.” ~Long and Short Reviews
“Wiesner has been very busy of late with her new and intriguing novels which are based on certain old fairytales and nursery rhymes. Wiesner has the reader really getting into the minds of the characters and finding out what makes them tick. She normally likes putting tragic characters together where the both of them can find peace of mind with each other and sort out their life. In this one, it is less about self-harm or self-punishment, and more of what others have done to them, for example, the curse on their family. It is interesting to see how these two characters will work out their differences and become one.”” ~Love Romance Passion
“One Night of Eternity: The author earns extra points for an inventive punishment visited upon one of the two characters.” ~Bitten By Books

These hauntingly romantic tales will give you the chills and have you swooning within the same sentence. In Volume II, the author focuses on the Shaussegeny family, who has a terrible curse placed upon them. Beauty is the Beast comes with a new twist. I love fairy tales and I am always happy to check out new retellings. This one is definitely one of the best. I love the dark romance and the twists and turns that are added into this story. Ransom brings some real depth to the beast character which I love because not all retellings of this story have very much depth to the beast's character. This story is so much more than a retelling, though as it brings in a magic of its own and drew me in, keeping me glued to the pages for hours. I highly recommend Beauty is the Beast not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews
5 Stars! “Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite fairytale and Wiesner's story is loosely based on it; however, that is not why I am giving this story such a high rating. This story deserves every star. Instead of accepting his fate and grieving, this hero is trying hard to lift the curse or find a cure. As for the heroine, she is not perfect. Her secret is worse than his. I find that fact to be a refreshing change. It is a gentle twist to make the tale even more interesting. Wiesner knows what readers want in their stories and she delivers.” ~Huntress Reviews
4.5 Stars! “I’m glad Ransom finally got his own story. In the previous three stories in the anthology, he remained a bit of a mystery. As I read, I discovered that Ransom is much more than a scientist. He’s a caring, sensitive man with amazing willpower. While the rest of his family embraces the curse of the werewolf, Ransom has been fighting it for over twenty years. It would have been so much easier for Ransom to embrace the curse, but he took the more difficult path. I admire his perseverance and dedication to his principles. When a strange man stumbles onto the Shaussegeny property, his situation bears an eerie resemblance to the tale of Beauty and the Beast. Tess brings out the best in Ransom. Though they met under less than ideal circumstances, they quickly begin to fall in love and have great chemistry. Like Ransom was at the beginning, Tess is very mysterious. The truth of her past isn’t revealed in full until the end of the story. I can’t give away any details without spoiling the ending. However, I will say that Tess’s history is a truly interesting twist that I didn’t expect. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Beauty is the Beast. Ransom’s happy ending with Tess is sweet and well deserved. Ms. Wiesner’s take on the classic fairytale was the perfect ending to this miniseries within the overall Woodcutter’s Grim Series. Anyone who enjoys fairy tales that are a little different should certainly read Beauty is the Beast as well as the other stories in the anthology.” ~Long and Short Reviews
4 Stars! “Beauty and the Beast with a new twist. I love fairytales and I am always happy to check out new retellings. This one is definitely one of the best. I love the dark romance and the twists and turns that are added into this story. Ransom brings some real depth to the beast character which I love because not all retellings of this story have very much depth to the beast's character. This story is so much more than a retelling though as it brings in a magic of its own and drew me in, keeping me glued to the pages for hours. I highly recommend this not only to fans of fairytales, but anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.” ~The Romance Reviews
4 Stars! "I am generally not a fan of the destined to be together storyline. That said, it works in this story. There is a reason for it and I love the twist that comes from it. It was so good, so unexpected, that I in no way saw it coming or even came close to guessing what it might be. Overall, I recommend this book. It is a wonderful re-imagining to Beauty and the Beast and well worth adding to any collection.” ~You Gotta Read Reviews
4 Stars! “This is a novel where the characters have their problems. Everything can be worked out for the better. It ends up being an interesting and compelling retelling of a popular fairy tale.” ~Love Romance Passion
“Each story in Woodcutter’s Grim Series, Volume II contains some aspect that adds to the enjoyment. In the case of Beauty is the Beast, an interesting and unexpected twist supplies that extra appeal. This last installment of the miniseries does provide a resolution for some of the ongoing storylines, though a door opens for further possibilities within the world of Woodcutter’s Grim in THE DEEP.” ~Bitten By Books
THE DEEP, Book 3
5 Stars! “Each story in this series is a different, dark piece of the evil puzzle that is known as Woodcutter’s Grim. If you enjoy authors who write old school style, then this entire series should be to your taste. All the titles, especially this one, has the spicy flavor of the old Gothic Romances that I used to greedily consume. This story has romance, mystery, suspense, adventure, and horror all blended together. Something for everyone. As usual, Wiesner gives readers what they crave—and more.” ~Huntress Reviews
5 Stars! “THE DEEP is a bone-chilling horror novel. Wiesner entices the reader into the creatively built world, Woodcutter’s Grim, where evil likes to reside. The author’s vivid descriptions of a creepy fetish doll, an unknown creature in the basement, and the cold that permeates the house combine into a thoroughly spooky page-turning read. Even with the evil creature as a large part of this story, Wiesner skillfully rebuilds Cheyenne Welsh and James Beck’s relationship as well. Their heartfelt conversations, confessions, and forgiveness make them couple to cheer for. This entertaining, hair-raising novel with an action-packed climax.” ~BTSemag
5 Stars and Reviewer's Top Pick! “The Woodcutter’s Grim Series will have readers looking over their shoulders, watching for creepy monsters to sneak up on them. This series will remind the reader of classic fairytales with an evil twist. The Deep is a piercing tale, one sure to evoke feelings of fear and terror. Wiesner is a talented author with a gift for combining terror with romance. Her descriptions are so vivid that I could see the scenes playing out on the stage in my mind’s eye. This series is addictive; once you read one book you will want to read the rest.” ~Readers' Favorite
5 Stars! “The eighth Woodcutter's Grim Series thriller is a chilling horror tale. The second chance relationship between James and Chey enhances the strong main storyline of a good earth mother fighting the ancient evil her Daddy wrought upon his offspring. Readers will relish the latest work by this wonderfully talented writing wizard.” ~MBR Bookwatch 5 Stars! “WHOA! Talk about on the edge of your seat! I had a very hard time putting this book down.” ~Linda's Reviews
Editor’s Top Pick! “In the series, Wiesner has crafted a well-researched and creative world in which evil forces plague the small northern Wisconsin town of Woodcutter’s Grim, commonly taking the guises, appearances, and traits of fairytale monsters and folklore characters. As Wiesner spins THE DEEP, she draws on previously explored mythologies and tales without shutting readers new to Woodcutter’s Grim out—THE DEEP was the first book in the series I have read and I was able to connect to passing references with relative ease. Wiesner builds a sense of dread and foreboding in THE DEEP. While there are elements of horror imbued throughout, the story is smart and fast paced. I look forward to traveling to Woodcutter’s Grim once again.” ~BellaOnline Horror Literature
“This novel merges horror and romance in a perfectly balanced combination. The conflict between Cheyenne’s loathing of her former home and James’s duty to remain in the town is believable, and their emotional clashes are rendered with wrenching intensity. Vividly portrayed sensory details enhance the horror, especially the icy cold of the house and the odor of mushrooms that intermittently permeates the atmosphere. While secondary characters enrich the background and allude to other books in the series, no prior knowledge of them is necessary to appreciate this story. Wiesner employs African myth and legend to create a plotline intriguingly different from the European-based hauntings of much horror fiction.” ~author Margaret L. Carter
HUNTER'S BLUES (A Mirror Darkly Novel), Book 4
5 Stars! "Oh my gosh, I didn’t want to stop reading this book to go to sleep! The evil had come to Woodcutter’s Grim 50 years before, sending ghouls to decimate their seriously dwindling population while their children are born with mutations. I admired Mishell for her dedication and unselfishness to everyone around her. I liked how Guardian hunter, Reece Pallaton, took his duties very seriously since his father disappeared and left him to protect the people. But at no time does Reece feel he’s qualified for the job. Only together can Reece and Mishell save the remaining population left on Earth." ~Linda's Reviews
4 Stars! “There is so much action in this story. The author has created a complicated plot that slowly becomes clearer over time. The ending reminded me much of a whirlwind; so many facts coming together as the ghouls got closer and closer. This dark, futuristic tale left me a bit breathless. Awesome!” ~Huntress Reviews
BRIDGE OF FIRE, Book 5: Out of the Ashes, Part 1
5 Stars! “In Out of the Ashes, the first part of BRIDGE OF FIRE, I found the Gruff family intriguing. Will was the youngest son of three brothers. His father made a choice that both saved and doomed them for all time. Will’s mom didn’t want her children to be slaves to the evil that lived in Woodcutter’s Grim. She made a dangerous alliance to save one of her sons. Will was too young to have fallen under the sway of the magic in that town. Before she helped him escape, she told him not to trust anyone and to never come back. Will fled, ensuring his life in the years that followed was lonely. But, like his father before him, Will possesses a skill that transcends explanation. He can create magical bridges. I fell in love with Adaryn and her friends Torin and Celee right along with Will. But a happily-ever-after doesn’t seem likely with a centuries’ old creature hunting them. Unbelievably, the only place that seems safe for them is Woodcutter’s Grim! I can’t wait to see what happens next in Part 2: A New Beginning!” ~Linda’s Reviews
5 Stars! “This portion of BRIDGE OF FIRE seems to tell readers just what we need to know, breaking at a good point--not what I would consider a frustrating ‘cliffhanger’. I admire the way the author created an original mythos of her own using creatures from legend and lore. And I'll bet nobody else has ever written a love story between a phoenix and a goat shapeshifter." ~author Margaret L. Carter
“Long was Liam alone. This changed in Italy when he met Adaryn Azar. The pair fell in love almost immediately. But Liam knew very little about his new wife, Adaryn. She, also, had been alone for a very long time hunted by a dangerous creature. I found the character of Liam/William to be fully formed in my mind. I came to feel as if I understood him. Two secondary characters, Torin and his daughter, Celee, I came to care for. I can only hope that they get their own story told somewhere in this three-part tale. We shall see. To tell this tale Wiesner couldn’t say too much. I do not see how the author could have done better.” ~Huntress Reviews
BRIDGE OF FIRE, Book 5: A New Beginning, Part 2
5 Stars! “Again, I think this book ends at a reasonable stopping point, avoiding the dreaded cliffhanger. I enjoyed the dialogue and character relationship development. I love the relationship between Celee and Ember. It's hard to imagine how this trilogy could end happily. Well, I'll find out soon. I'm looking forward to finding out what finally happens to these people, especially the hero and heroine Liam and Adaryn.” ~author Margaret L. Carter
5 Stars! “In the last part, Out of the Ashes, Liam, his wife Adaryn, and their two friends Torin and Celee travel to Woodcutter's Grim to escape the hunter who’s always a step behind them. Though Liam had promised his mother he’d never return when he fled the town, he has no choice but to come home now and complete the training that will allow him to save those he loves. But the evil in this place overtook his father when Liam was just a child and now his oldest brother is irrevocably under its sway. How can he survive if he allows himself to wield the magic? The last place on earth they should go is their only option now. Liam’s love for Adaryn touched me. Torin, also, was easy to fall in love with along with his adorable little girl. Ember was a fascinating creature I enjoyed getting to know better. I can hardly wait to see how this story ties up in the third and final part of BRIDGE OF FIRE.” ~Linda’s Reviews
4 Stars! “Part 2 picks up where the first left off. In order to fully understand this novel you must read the previous one. The character of Adaryn becomes more fleshed out. I feel as though I am beginning to understand her more. Much more time is devoted to her and the pregnancy. I am looking forward to the birth and eager to see what happens in the sanctuary. There is so much going on that I do not see how the author can possibly tie them together and bring them all to a close within only one more part. But this author often surprises me.” ~Huntress Reviews
BRIDGE OF FIRE, Book 5: Into the Sun, Part 3
5 Stars! “In the final part of BRIDGE OF FIRE, the characters are sympathetic, and the mythology of Woodcutter's Grim is richly developed in interesting depth. I like the way it pulls many fairy tales together. For me as a reader, the author’s note at the end provided a detailed explanation of the series order and was very helpful. It's the kind of thing I always enjoy reading after completing a novel. In fact, when a book doesn't have an author's afterword, I miss it. Ultimately, the conclusion of Bridge of Fire is quite satisfying.” ~author Margaret L. Carter
5 Stars! “Woodcutter’s Grim Series goes out with a bang in this final installment, Into the Sun, Part 3 of BRIDGE OF FIRE. I loved Will Gruff from the beginning, as far back as when his mom helped him break the blood contract their family was under so he alone could be saved. Yet he came back to the place that’s the least safe for him because he knows he’s the one who has to save those he cares for. I loved all the characters so much, I thought them as extended family. I admit I adored little Celee as a St. Bernard shifter most of all. The introduction of fairy tale creatures of all kinds in this three-part tale was an added bonus.” ~Linda’s Reviews
4 Stars! “Each part of BRIDGE OF FIRE must be read in order. Otherwise, you will be lost and unable to fully understand what is happening. Each chapter begins with the name of the character that is being followed. All three parts of the story are told in the viewpoint of multiple characters. The mysterious Nazarha Pallaton finally appears. I found her character to be the most interesting. (Other than that of a certain splintercat's!) Nazarha has been helping fight the evil in Woodcutter's Grim, as did her mother before her, long before Liam and his family arrive. Though she only now enters the story, the author mentioned Nazarha the Seer several times in the previous part, so I felt as though I already knew something about her and she felt very familiar to her. Perhaps this is why I was drawn to the character. From the middle of this part until the very end, I was on the edge of my seat. I could feel time running out and sense the rush to be ready. A very satisfying ending to the BRIDGE OF FIRE tale.” ~Huntress Reviews
